Getting Here

Phuket is easily accessible by air, train, ferry, taxi and bus. Phuket has an international airport located in the north of the island. It all depends on what you are comfortable with, how much you want to pay and how quickly you want to get to where you want to go. More info.
Getting Around

Phuket is a easy city to get around, transport options are numerous, frequent and cheap. Whenever you need a ride in Phuket Town just look out fir the famous 'Tuk-Tuk', show them that you want to hop on and voilá. You can get anywhere for a few Baht. If your resort is located in a beach resort area, you'll be within walking distance of the beach, plus several dining spots and shopping areas … Find out more. Weather & Climate

Phuket has a balmy tropical climate, with 2 distinct seasons that shift with the direction of the monsoons. The northeast monsoon season, from November through March, brings cooler breezes and sunny, dry days. The wet southwest monsoon runs from May through October. Is Phuket For You? Old tree branch on sandy beachPhuket is of course, a beach destination, so if that's not what you're looking for, you might as well move on to Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Koh Samui Island. There are plenty of water sports on offer, as well as a number of other activities. You can find all of them in the section 'Sights & Attractions' and in our 'Visitor Guide'. Phuket is the biggest island in Thailand at 550sq km, which is the same size as Singapore, located in west coast of Southern Thailand in the Andaman Sea. Phuket is a mountainous covered by forest. The lowlands are comprised of rubber plantations, pineapples and coconuts. Named  'Pearl of the South' by the tourist industry Phuket is Thailand’s most visited island. Thailand’s only island province revolves around and thrives on tourism, but still retains a bit of the real Thailand. There are many ways to pass the day in Phuket City. There are more tourists on Phuket than on any other Thai island, so think twice to come here if you are looking for lonely beaches. Most people go to the beaches on the southwestern side, which are packed with amenities and entertainment options. Spectacular scenery, stunning tropical sunrises and warm  crystal clear ocean awaits you at Asia's most popular beach and holiday destination due to its perfect velvety, white palm-lined beaches and seasides. The most famous beaches are Patong, Kata, Karon, Kamala and Nai Harn Beach. When to go to Phuket longtail boatsPhuket can be enjoyed at just about any time of year. However, if you're looking for a bit of nice sunshine and fine sand, you'd best avoid September and October, that's when the monsoon rains really starts to hit Phuket hard. How to Get to Phuket Long tailed boatIf you have not come to Phuket directly by plane about the only practical way to get to Phuket is to drive there from Bangkok. Buses are available from Bangkok's Eastern Bus Terminal, or you can arrange for a private transfer by car, bus or van. See the getting to Phuket page for more info on this. Location and Climate Railay Bay / Thailand, KrabiPhuket island is located in the tropical zone off the west coast of the southern part of Thailand in the Andaman Sea and is connected to Phang-nga province by Sarasin Bridge and Thep Krasattri Bridge. It's approx 860 km. away from Bangkok by road and 80 minutes by air. There are only two seasons in a year: the rainy season from May to October and the hot season from November to April. September and October are the wettest months. The best period is from November through February with an occasional breeze. Getting Around in Phuket Snorkel Paradise Similan Island, ThailandThere are a few metered taxis in Phuket, but not too many. The most common mode of transport is the songtaew, a light pick-up truck or minibus with benches mounted along either side of its bed. These work like buses: You hop on the back of a truck going your way, and hop off when it passes close to your destination. You pay a flat fee of around 10-20 Baht for trips within Phuket, or up to 50 Baht for trips off the island. What To See Palm tree at dawn, Patong beachPhuket is definitely a beach destination, so water sports are definitely at the top of the list of things to do. Phuket is a relatively new city, so there isn't much in the way of cultural sights - Check out our Cultural Sights Page on Bangkok if you want to stop there first and then head down to Phuket. Highlights on the island include Phuket Town, with it's old traditional Thai character that suggests what the island was like before the tourists arrive. You might be fascinated by the old mansions and their Sino-Portuguese architecture or quite lanes with century-old Chinese herbalists shops. Then there are the great viewpoints above Kata Bay and at Promthep cape, from which to see the sunset or the chedi at Wat Chalong. Phuket Shopping Fire spinPhuket is the perfect destination in Thailand if you are looking for great markets, big-ass malls, souvenirs for your friends and family at home, boutiques .... and much more (besides Bangkok, of course). Probably because it attracts so many weekend holiday-makers from Bangkok, Phuket has quite a few shopping centers. These offer a range of goods, from clothing to books, as well as a large number of restaurants to choose from. Phuket Town now has several department stores, which make it easy for visitors to find the essentials. Hundreds and hundreds of little shops and street stalls, meanwhile, sell cheap and often very nice beach and sportswear. The department stores usually have fixed prices. Thai Currency Koh Nang Yuan, ThailandThe currency of Thailand is the "Baht" - sometimes spelled "Bath". One Baht is divisible into 100 Satangs. Major credit cards such as Visa and Master Card are accepted by hotels and large shops, but "hard cash" is the preferred tender almost everywhere, be it Baht, Dollar or Euro. Travelers checks are not widely accepted outside of hotels, so change them for money at a bank exchange, which you'll find in any and every tourist destination. Central Thai is the official language and used in business and tourism areas. People in general use southern Thai dialect, which sounds more succinct and is spoken faster than the central Thai.
